Detection
Even in challenging circumstances, SICK sensor systems successfully recognize objects and object characteristics. Various tasks include detecting transparent or perforated objects, the object’s contrast, color, luminescence, gloss, dimensions and profiles. Other tasks also include the detection of metal at short distance, magnets, print marks and labels, piston position, zero pressure accumulation, duplicate layers of different materials, leading edge of moving object, and the fill level of full or empty totes/containers.

Protection
Personal safety is of the highest priority, but machines and other objects are also monitored and protected. Technical safety requires the monitoring of hazardous areas, hazardous points, access, doors and flaps, machine positioning and movements. Position Determination
SICK sensors detect the position of all kinds of object. Location, format, navigation – all are identified and sent to the relevant control. Sensors can detect web edge or contrast lines. Other tasks also include linear distance measurement and position detection of pistons in pneumatic cylinders.
